Jelly Shift Game App Review
What is Jelly Shift?
The premise of this game is a simple one; you control a block of jelly as it slides along a straight path, but there are several obstacles along the way. You have to shape the jelly properly to fit through each obstacle before you hit it. All you have to do is make it through all the obstacles until you get to the end of the stage. Naturally, as you reach further levels, the difficulty will increase, providing a greater challenge.
Should you Get Jelly Shift?
This game, like many other short-lived popular titles, has a fun concept, but doesn’t execute it properly. While the notion of being able to shape the jelly under your control as it moves forward is exciting, the game itself isn’t difficult enough to make the most of it. The trailers you see often show much more complex and difficult stages than actually exist within the game. Even on the latter stages, you won’t be pushed too hard in regards to completing them, and they are often very short. This is where the true nature of Jelly Shift reveals itself; it’s optimized to smother the player with as many ads as possible as quickly as possible.
Jelly Shift will force you to watch 30 second long video ads after every stage, or every other stage if you’re really lucky. You can’t skip these ads until you’re already more than halfway through them. The kicker is that most stages of gameplay in this app will take you less time to complete than watching the ad that follows it. And while there is an option to remove ads from the game, it’s a weekly payment option that will quickly drain your wallet just to get more game than advertisement out of what is presented as a game for entertainment.
This isn’t to say that the game has nothing good about it. Without the ads it actually has the potential to be entertaining, and there are a lot of skins to choose from when customizing your jelly. However, your fun will be interrupted by ads so wearily often that you’ll rarely get to enjoy yourself for more than half a minute at a time.
-Has a fun concept that can provide some entertaining gameplay
-Easy mechanics make the game simple to pick up and play for anyone
-Extremely high concentration of ads constantly interrupts gameplay
Details: Age Range, OS, Etc.
The game is rated 12 and up, not because of the content of the game itself, but because of the content that may be shown in the ads that crop up so often. The OS needed to play this game is iOS 9.0 or later or Android 4.1 and up. There are in-app purchases to remove the ads, but you must pay weekly to achieve this.
